BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash that involved a vehicle and a transit bus on US 1 and Camp Rd. in Cocoa Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers say a woman identified as 63-year-old Vella Quist died from a medical episode following the crash around 4 p.m.

According to the investigation, Quist was traveling northbound in the right lane on US-1 in her 2003 Hyundai  and rear-ended a transit bus that had stopped to load passengers onto the bus.

Troopers do not yet know why Quist failed to stop before crashing into the bus.

Quist reportedly walked around the scene after the crash where she then suffered a medical episode and was taken to Rockledge Regional Medical Center, formerly known as Wuesthoff Hospital.

Quist later died as a result, according to FHP.
