BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Crimeline Central Florida has awarded Melinda Bishop, Melbourne Police Department’s administrative assistant for investigations, the Outstanding Law Enforcement Participation Award for her exemplary job in partnering with and reporting to Crimeline.

Bishop plays a critical behind-the-scenes role at the Melbourne Police Department by monitoring and tracking the electronic receipt of all tips, including those received from Crimeline.

She receives, reviews and analyzes up to 90 tips per week on average, making sure each gets to the appropriate unit at the MPD. Once an investigation is complete, she gets the results back to Crimeline.

Bishop received the Outstanding Law Enforcement Participation Award at the Central Florida Crimeline Breakfast Awards Recognition and 40th Anniversary Celebration.

In presenting the award, Crimeline Executive Director Barb Bergin said, “Melinda is so professional, efficient and thorough that Crimeline gets exactly what we need, every time. Her reports explain everything perfectly and in great detail.”

Crimeline is a nonprofit organization that provides an anonymous tip line service to law enforcement agencies in Central Florida at no cost.

The organization provides a critical service to local law enforcement agencies by furnishing information on crimes, criminals and criminal activity that they would otherwise be unable to obtain and by promoting public cooperation and involvement with law enforcement.

“The information we receive from Crimeline is priceless,” said Criminal Investigations Commander Marc Claycomb. “It has helped us resolve cases by enabling those who come forward with information to remain truly anonymous.”

In the past 40 years, Crimeline has provided thousands of tips that have led to thousands of arrests, cases cleared, and firearms recovered in central Florida. Millions of dollars in property and drugs have also been recovered in central Florida thanks to Crimeline.

Anyone with information about a felony crime can call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477). If the information provided leads to a felony arrest or a felony warrant being issued, the anonymous reporting party will be given instructions on how to pick up the cash reward. The prearranged place to pick up the reward will be known only to the reporting party and Crimeline.
