BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the dog attack of a four-year-old child.

According to BCSO PIO Tod Goodyear, the Sheriff’s Office Animal Services responded to 1135 Rolling Rock Drive in Melbourne after receiving a report that a child had been attacked by a mixed-breed dog.

“The investigation thus far has revealed that the incident took place at 1124 Rolling Rock Drive where the child was being cared for while her father was at work,” said Goodyear.

The child was at the residence with an adult caretaker and four dogs when the attack occurred.

“The adult caretaker was able to get between and separate the dog and the child,” said Goodyear.

The child was transported to Arnold Palmer hospital in serious condition. The adult caretaker also received injuries that were treated at the scene.

Goodyear said that the owner of the dogs is cooperating, and three mixed-breed dogs were taken from the residence and are now in the custody of Animal Services pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to Animal Services records, there have been no prior complaints involving the residence or the dogs.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to please call Investigator Chris Mousseau of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services at 321-633-2105.
