BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA  – Sand Point Park in Titusville will transform into a New Orleans style French Quarter during the Titusville Mardi Gras Party & Parade, set for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. The Titusville Mardi Gras will be part of the Titusville Fair, which will take place February 8-11 in the park.

Titusville Mardi Gras will feature live bands on three premier stages, including Iron Butterfly, The Supervillains and The Chief Cherry & His Red Beans and Rice band.

Please note that the Fran Cosmo Band, which was scheduled to play at the Titusville Mardi Gras, will be unable to perform, as Fran Cosmo is suffering from pneumonia and is in hospital recovering. We wish Fran a speedy recovery.

Thanks to Buddy Lee Attractions Music Agency, we are pleased to announce that the world famous Iron Butterfly band will now perform in place of The Fran Cosmo Band at the Titusville Mardi Gras at 9 pm on Saturday, Feb. 10.

IRON BUTTERFLY – FIRST EVER PLATINUM ALBUM

The Los Angeles music climate of the late sixties and seventies was characterized by the heavy sounds and sentiments that reflected the revolutionary attitudes of the generation. Bursting onto that scene was Iron Butterfly, whose sound not only epitomized the hard attitudes of the youth with its heavy drumming and bass lines, but also embraced more delicate aspirations through its intricate guitar and keyboard overlays.

Iron Butterfly was signed to ATCO records (a division of Atlantic Records) and released their first album, aptly titled “Heavy”.  While the band was on the road with the likes of: The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Traffic, The Who, and Cream, their impressive debut stayed on Billboard’s album charts for almost a year!

They followed up with the monumental LP, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, featuring the 17:05 minute side-long track that shook the entire music industry with its phenomenal reception. ‘Vida outsold every record in the history of recorded music within the first year of its release and therefore outgrew and outsold the standard of the music industry’s “Gold Album” award.

For this achievement, Iron Butterfly was subsequently awarded: The Industry’s Very First “Platinum Album”!   “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” stayed on thecharts for 140 weeks, with 81 weeks in the Top Ten! To date the album has sold in excess of 30 million copies and remains an undisputed classic in the archives of rock with DJ’s and audiophiles worldwide!

Within a year of releasing “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, Iron Butterfly had charted a third album, “Ball”, – which surpassed “Vida” (still in Billboard’s Top 10) turning “Gold”, and climbed to No.#1. “Ball” remained on the charts for 44 weeks, followed by two more album releases – “Live”, and“Metamorphosis”,  each charting respectably in the Top 20!

The Supervillains will perform a concert on Saturday, February 10, during the Titusville Mardi Gras.

The Supervillains are one of central Florida’s most popular and original bands. They will perform February 11 at The Titusville Mardi Gras.

The self-described “Florida-bred swamp reggae rockers” will play on the Space Coast Daily Stage at 9:30 p.m.

The Supervillains are from Orlando, Florida and have become one of the most popular bands of their genre in central Florida.

“We group up, listening to a ton of music ranging from grunge to punk, hip hop and and reggae. We have been influenced by The Suicide Machines, Sublime, Operation Ivy, The Skatalites, The Toasters, Peter Tosh and the Beatles.

“We are looking forward to coming back to the Titusville Mardi Gras for many reasons. We’ve been doing shows in central florida since we started touring so many years ago I can’t even count. It’s always a blast and the shows are always amazing. Plus, it’s on the coast and its outside. Little salt in the air and dope bands on the stage, then munch some mardi gras food.”

Since the beginning of the year, fans of the Supervillains’ live shows have noticed something different in the band’s personnel department. Long-time bassist (and production wizard) Dan Grundorf has permanently handed over the reins and bass duties to BJ Hall, the band’s long-tenured stage/guitar-tech and bus driver.

There will be stilt walkers, marching bands, jugglers, strolling musicians and much more to create a festive family atmosphere along the beautiful waterfront of Titusville’s Sand Point Park.

“Our company created the Cocoa Village Mardi Gras, and Sand Point Park in Titusville is a great location for a similar event,” said Giles Malone, partner with Brevard Productions Inc. which will produce the event in cooperation with several local sponsors.

“We feel that the Titusville community and downtown patrons will thoroughly enjoy a fun, family-style Mardi Gras Street Party and Parade like the one we created in Cocoa Village,” said Malone.

The 15-acre park near downtown Titusville will be the venue for the Mardi Gras and there will be live musical entertainment on all stages featuring a different genre of music.

The 9-piece swing jazz band called Chief Cherry and His Red Beans & Rice will headline the Mardi Gras stage.

“This is going to be an awesome event for our city,” said Voncile Franklin, of Franklin Productions, who is on the local organizing committee for the Titusville Mardi Gras.

“This type of family event is great for Titusville as it will have quality entertainment, will provide a celebratory meeting point for our community and will have a strong economic impact for our local businesses.”

Plena Mar Latino started as a group of four members consisting of Güiro, Punteador, Seguidor and Requinto. Then the congas, trumpets, trombones and bass were added.

Today the group consists of 12 professional musicians in its branch and thus highlighting that typical acoustic sound that is still heard playing in the corners of our neighborhoods in Puerto Rico. But at the same time, it is our attempt to maintain a tradition that, instead of staying, distant and forgotten, is reinvented originally and dynamically.

A modern group, full of energy, with young, modern visions and with much desire to continue our own style but still reserving the feeling of what is full.

That’s why they are different from the other groups in Central Florida. They have participated in several Puerto Rican parades and multiple social activities, such as The San Sebastian Street Festival in Orlando and Miami, The Bomb and Plena Festival in Tampa, The Cultural Festival in Miami and The Hispanic Festival in Jacksonville among many others.
