BCFR: cause of the fire is cooking related

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A 10-year-old child was injured during a fire at the Hampton Court apartments on Merritt Island Saturday afternoon.

Brevard County Fire Rescue crews, along with Canaveral Fire Rescue, First Flight and Merritt Island VFD, responded to the blaze at 55 Needle Boulevard and made a rescue of the pediatric patient.

The victim was treated by Brevard County Fire Rescue and then transferred to First Flight, who transported the injured child to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.

According to Brevard County Fire Rescue, the cause of the fire is cooking related and no damage estimate is currently available.

A county fire inspector is investigating the fire.
