Brevard Sheriff’s Office Honors Edgewood High School Senior With “Great Kids” Award

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Last week, I had the honor of presenting Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School Senior, Devin Visconti, with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office “Great Kids” Award as she was nominated by School Resource Officer Jackie Falvey.

The “Great Kids” Award recognizes students in our community who consistently show respect for their peers, help others in a time of need, maintain a strong academic standard and represent themselves, their family and their school with great character and pride. This program is facilitated in partnership with School Resource Officers and Deputies throughout Brevard County and Brevard Public Schools.

Devin is an outstanding example of a student who goes above and beyond what is required of her. Devin is currently a member and officer of the Student Government Association (SGA), National Beta Association (NBA), and works outside of school as a cashier/tech at the Merritt Island Discount Pharmacy.

Devin comes from a law enforcement family and appreciates the honor, courage, and sacrifice of those who serve. For her senior project, Devin chose to focus on a project close to her heart – her law enforcement community. She organized a “teachers verses students” charity basketball game, to benefit the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Foundation. This foundation helps to rebuild the shattered lives of survivors and co-workers affected by “in-the-line of duty” deaths, through partnerships with law enforcement and the local community.

Devin brought together students, faculty, and the community for a fantastic night that raised approximately $680.00 for the C.O.P.S. Foundation!! The faculty at Edgewood was not only impressed at the amount of money Devin raised, they were also shocked that they won the basketball game, 66-64!

Please join me in congratulating Devin on being a “Great Kid” and thanking Deputy Falvey and the staff for not only nominating Devin but for believing in her and helping her reach her dreams!
