BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police arrested Shane Edward Younger, 25, of Melbourne, Wednesday and charged him with several felonies after the suspect jumped in the driver’s seat of a parked cable work truck with a trailer occupied by a worker, and then sped off.

According to Cocoa police, Younger was charged with Felony Criminal Mischief, grand theft auto, felony grand theft, driving while license revoked with knowledge and violation of probation.

The incident, which caused outages throughout Central Brevard County, happened early Wednesday morning when police responded to the area of Rosa L Jones Boulevard and South Cocoa Boulevard in reference to a possible stolen vehicle described as a white work truck with a crane pulling a white trailer.

The work truck was described as a heavy duty Ford truck with a bucket crane and overhead amber hazard lights. The truck had a utility trailer attached to it which carried electronic and power tools.

According to a police report, two technicians were working on repairs of a fiber optic telecommunication bundle and had their work truck pulled along the roadside with one technician inside the trailer fixing the cable, which was fed through the window of the trailer so the cable could be repaired in a controlled environment.

The technician said that while inside the trailer, he felt the truck and trailer rocking and then start to move so he jumped out to see what was going on and witnessed the work truck and trailer speeding away Southbound on South Fiske Boulevard.

Shortly after the truck theft, Cocoa police received information that Brevard County Sherriff Deputies found the stolen truck and trailer in the parking lot of Denny’s restaurant, located at 75 East Merritt Island Causeway and have a black male suspect detained.

The suspect entered the Denny’s restaurant and employees called BCSO because Younger said, “someone was trying to kill him.”

Denny’s employees also said they had witnessed Younger exiting the work truck, which he illegally parked in front of the restaurant.

Younger is in the Brevard County Jail on No Bond.
