BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –  The Florida Tech men’s golf team posted strong results during the first day of the 2018 Panther Invitational at Duran Golf Club on Sunday as the Panthers’ “A” and “B” squads sit among the Top-8 in the standings.

Florida Tech “A” is third overall with a round one score of 7-over 295, while the “B” team is tied for eighth at 30-over 318. Florida Southern leads the pack with a 3-under 285, while Barry is in second at 1-over 289.

Max O’Hagan leads the FIT contingent in second place with a score of 3-under 69 in the first round. He sits one stroke back of the leader, John Coultas from Florida Southern.

Ali Thurlow is tied for 10th on the leaderboard at 2-over 74, while Gaelen Trew is tied for 13th with a score of 3-over 75 on Sunday. Shanren Brienen and Han Xue each carded a 5-over 77 and sit in a tie for 26th.

Alex Fernandez paces the “B” team with a first round score of 4-over 76 and is tied for 19th. Toby Roberts is  tied for 34 at 7-over 79, while Stefan Bogason is one stroke back and tied for 39th at 8-over 80.

Evan Thompson shot an 11-over 83 in the round and is tied for 52nd and Joe Ellis rounds out the squad in a tie for 61st at 13-over 85.

 The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team sits in fifth place after a tough first round of the Panther Invitational at Duran Golf Club.

The final hole of the day was costly to the Titans who finished 12-over as a team after the first round of the three-day event.

Sophomore Ryan Rozic is tied for seventh place after shooting a 72 while teammate Kyle Decenzo is tied for 10th with a 74.

Both Decenzo and Fraser Davren ran into trouble on the 18th hole as the team was 8-over on the hole.

Greg Darnell finished with a 76.

Florida Southern shot 3-under as the only team to go under par in the first round. They lead the University of Barry by four strokes heading into the second round.

The Titans will tee off beginning at 10:10 a.m. Monday for the second round at Duran Golf Club.
