Mike Torres of Merritt Island Apprehended By Brevard Deputies After Bomb Threat at Dollar General

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Mike Torres, 62, of Merritt Island, was arrested by Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies on Monday evening after making a bomb threat to an employee at Dollar General, located at 3995 N. Courtenay Parkway on Merritt Island.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Torres was charged with Displaying a Hoax Bomb, Petit Theft, Robbery With a Weapon and a Threat to Discharge a Destructive Device.

The incident began when Torres entered the Dollar General, announced he had a bomb in what looked like a cigarette pack, and demanded cash from the checkout attendants.

According to the incident report, four customers were in the store and two employees were at the counter at the time of the threat.

The checkout attendants complied with the suspect’s demand and gave him some cash. He then fled the scene as the witnesses called 9-1-1.

Torres was apprehended a short time later and taken to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on a $50,000 bond,
