BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 14-year-old Space Coast Jr/Sr High School student was arrested by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office on Monday after making threats that a bomb would explode at the school.

The investigation began Monday afternoon when the student made the comments in the presence of a teacher and several students. The School Resource Officer was notified, as well as Brevard Public School Security.

Due to the nature of the threats, several faculty members were evacuated and the school temporarily cancelled all extracurricular activities until the premises could be deemed safe.

After coordination with the Resource Officer and school administration, the school was swept by explosive detection K-9’s and members of the Bomb Squad.

Investigators say no devices were located and the school was turned back over to school administration after the sweep was completed.

The investigation determined that the student made the comments because he did not want to attend his 6th period class, according to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The student was never in possession of a destructive device and the school, faculty, or students were never in any danger, say investigators.

The student has been charged with False report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner and interfering with school function.

The teen was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
