DEVON HUGHES, or as you may have known him, D-Von Dudley, Reverend D’Von, Brother D’Von or just Devon, beat the odds and became one-half of one of the greatest tag-teams in the history of professional wrestling.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – DeVon Hughes, or as you may have known him, D-Von Dudley, Reverend D’Von, Brother D’Von or just Devon, beat the odds and became one-half of one of the greatest tag-teams in the history of professional wrestling.

But as he did in his 25-year wrestling career, Hughes fought his way to the top and beat the odds.

He caught his break when he walked into Brooklyn’s famous Gleason’s Gym and began being trained by wrestling legend, Johnny Rodz. Hughes worked hard and began wrestling in 1992, competing on the independent circuit in the Northeast.

His career and life would change on April 13, 1996, when Hughes debuted in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) as D’Von Dudley. His character was based on Jules Winnfield, the Bible-quoting hitman portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction.

It was in the ECW where Devon Hughes would eventually be paired with Mark LoMonaco, or, as he was known, Bubba Ray Dudley. Starting in the summer of 1995, Bubba Ray and D-Von would go onto make history in every wrestling alliance or league they entered for the next 20-plus years.

Team 3D, as they would also be known, would become the only duo in professional wrestling history to hold the WWE, WWF/World, ECW, WCW, NWA, TNA and IGWP Tag Team Championships.

Sacrificing their bodies from head to toe, embodying the “extreme” part of the brand, the Dudley Boyz would become fan favorites across the entire spectrum of professional wrestling.

In 1999, the Dudley’s made the jump to the WWE where the greatest tag team of all time in the ECW would now face off against the greatest tag teams in the world. D’Von and Bubba Ray again excelled.

Even after WWE acquired their rivals, World Championship Wrestling in 2001, an influx of new talent couldn’t stop The Dudley Boyz, from climbing the ladder…literally.

While part of WWE and aside from winning tag team titles, the Dudley Boyz claim to fame was bringing the use of tables as weapons into the wrestling mainstream, often using their signature double-team move, the 3D, to put their opponents through one of these tables.

23 WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES IN CAREER

Bubba Ray and D’Von left WWE in 2005 and made their way to Total Nonstop Action wrestling alliance where they would spend 10-years, win several more tag team titles and eventually be inducted into The TNA Hall of Fame.

Hughes would also win his first individual title and watch as his twin sons, Terrence and Terrell joined him in the squared circle to start their careers.

Bubba Ray and D’Von returned to WWE in 2015 during an episode of the popular Monday night WWE cable show RAW in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York.

After another 18 months of in-ring feuds and another WrestleMania appearance, D’Von Hughes stepped away from the squared circle but would come back to work for WWE as a producer where he still is today.

Along with LoMonaco, they won 23 world tag team titles in their careers, a number that no other team in the modern era can match. In February of this year, they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Hughes resides in Brevard County where he has done charity work for “Hope for a Single Mother.” He also owns Team 3D Wrestling Academy in Kissimmee with his long-time partner Bubba Ray and aside from his twin sons Terrence and Terrell is the proud father of Matthew and Preston.
