Florida Tech No. 2 Seed in Upcoming Sunshine State Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament

The Sunshine State Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament begins with semifinal matchups on Friday, April 27th. 

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA– The Sunshine State Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament begins with semifinal matchups on Friday, April 27. 

The tournament returns to Florida Southern College for the fourth consecutive year.

Florida Tech (15-1, 5-1) claims the No. 2 seed due to a head-to-head loss against Florida Southern on March 24th. Owners of a six-game win streak, the Panthers, will play No. 3 seed Tampa (11-5, 4-2) in the opening round.

Tampa earns the No. 3 seed over Rollins thanks to a February 10th victory for the Spartans against the Tars. On April 4th, Florida Tech went on the road to Tampa and came away with a 22-13 victory. Sara Grenier and Mollie Kaplan each had five goals for the Panthers in the win.

Led by Sara Grenier’s 60 goals this season, Florida Tech outscored their opponents 312-150.

After a fourth regular-season title in as many years, Florida Southern (17-1, 5-1) has earned the No. 1 seed in the SSC postseason tournament.

The Moccasins will take on No. 4 Rollins College (14-3, 4-2), who earlier this season handed FSC its first regular-season conference loss in program history. Mal Olin posted 18 saves while allowing 10 goals in Rollins’ 11-10 victory over Florida Southern on April 4th. Emily Santoli was the highlight for FSC the contest; the senior scored three times while picking up five ground balls.

The Panthers will be in search of their first-ever Conference Tournament title and an automatic berth into the NCAA D2 National Tournament.

In order to accomplish this feat, FIT will likely need to beat the Florida Southern Moccasins, a team they are 0-7 against in program history and lost to at home 15-11 back on March 24.

The Mocs are the No.4 ranked team in the country while Florida Tech is No.5. Both semifinals will be played at the Barnett Athletic Complex in Lakeland on April 27th.

The championship final will be played Sunday, April 29th at Noon on the campus of Florida Southern College.
