BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police patrol officers responded to five vehicle burglaries in the Emerald Lake subdivision in the western portion of the city on Thursday morning.

According to Cocoa Police PIO Yvonne Martinez, the calls started coming in around 7 a.m. Thursday when residents realized someone had entered their vehicles and taken wallets and cash. The vehicles were all left unlocked overnight.

If the doors were locked, the suspect continued to the next driveway. The burglaries were reported in the 5000 block of Brilliance Circle and the 5000 block of Radiance Court.

Video from a homeowner’s surveillance camera shows at least one suspect walking up and down driveways pulling on vehicle door handles.

“Vehicle burglaries are a crime of opportunity,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe.

“We want to remind all of our citizens to please remember to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables, especially firearms. Do whatever it takes to remember. Make a not. Set an alarm. Create a routine. It may help you keep from becoming a victim of opportunity.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Florida CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000 in this case.
