BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The 9th Annual Viera Wetlands Festival, being held on April 21st and 22nd, will feature a new and exciting exhibit this year sponsored by The Viera Company and the Viera Community Institute.

The event will be held at Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands located at 3658 Charlie Corbeil Way in Viera.

The Flight of the Raptor exhibit will be presented by trained “Falconers” who work with birds of prey on a regular basis.

They will teach festival-goers the differences between various birds of prey, the hunting habits and skills of the birds, and the rich history of how humans have worked with these magnificent creatures over time.

“The Viera Community Institute and The Viera Company are excited to be sponsoring the brand new Viera Wetlands Nature Festival exhibit this year, Flight of the Raptor,” stated Lauri Duda, V.P. Marketing, The Viera Company.

The Flight of the Raptor exhibit will be presented by trained “Falconers” who work with birds of prey on a regular basis.

“This exhibit will afford attendees the opportunity to meet and photograph hawks, falcons, and owls while at the festival. It’s a perfect time to come learn about what makes these birds so vital to a healthy, functional ecosystem.”

Now in its ninth year, the Viera Wetlands Nature Festival has become a community staple event on Earth Day weekend.

Highlighting Florida’s wildlife with tours of the wetlands, teaching the importance of preservation practices, and raising funds for the maintenance of this precious land is why Senior Environmental Scientist, Raleigh Berry began the festival back in 2010.

“I spend most of the two days with volunteers hosting back-to-back tours of the wetlands for our visitors, sharing our knowledge and insights,” Berry remarks.

“The support we receive from our visitors is very gratifying. We rely on donations to fund the costs associated with public access, like road maintenance, and land management to keep invasive plants in check.”
