BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — The School Board of Brevard County, Florida’s 10th largest school district, is conducting a search for superintendent of schools. The application period will run from Thursday, May 31 until Friday, June 8 at 5 p.m.

A new webpage HERE has been created to keep the Brevard County community informed throughout the superintendent search process. The webpage includes important information such as the search timeline, advertisement details, minutes of related meetings and other associated information.

Brevard Public Schools is one of Florida’s highest performing school districts, earning an “A” overall from the state Department of Education. BPS ranked second among the 14 large Florida districts in 2017 for overall student achievement and second for college and career acceleration.

Brevard County, which as a population 589,162, is known as the Space Coast for its signature aerospace industries including Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The school district is Brevard’s largest employer with 9,000 employees serving more than 73,000 students. BPS is the 47th-largest district in the United States and the 10th-largest in Florida.

BPS’ Mission: To Serve Every Student With Excellence as the Standard

Although about 57 percent of students qualify for free- or reduced-price school meals, student achievement surpasses state averages in nearly every grade and subject. In addition, the Brevard County School Board has made community engagement a top priority.

In 2017, 64 of Brevard’s 82 traditional public schools received the Florida Five-Star School Award, which recognizes schools that are measurably “committed to incorporating family and community members into the school environment to enhance student learning.”

Three of Brevard’s schools were named National Blue-Ribbon Schools. In 2018, U.S. News ranked three Brevard high schools among the top 50 in Florida – and two in the top 10.

The five-member School Board of Brevard County seeks a Superintendent with the following:

• Earned Doctorate preferred. MBA or equivalent required.
• A minimum of 10 years successful management/administrative experience.
• Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.

The successful candidate must be eager to lead a consistently high-achieving school district, be familiar with the latest research on educational leadership, student achievement and school effectiveness, and have the vision, energy, and financial background to manage a complex and growing organization.

A priority of the School Board is to continue the implementation of the current Brevard Strategic Plan.

The position start date and transition period begin in July 2018. The Board is prepared to offer, at minimum, a three-year contract with a salary range of $175,000 – $225,000 plus competitive benefits. Candidates selected as finalists must be available for interviews on June 21 and 22, 2018.
