BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — From STEM to snorkeling, aviation to athletics, sculpture to soccer, Florida Institute of Technology’s nearly three dozen summer camps this year will offer something for almost any interest.

Camps in academics, sports, art and more start May 29, for ages 3-18. Registration is now underway at http://camps.fit.edu.

Here’s a look at a few camps in academics, sports, art and more:

Girls in Engineering, Math, and Sciences (GEMS), June 10-15, ages 10-18: This camp is designed to provide hands-on learning at the cutting edge of modern Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. Participants will experience research in various areas of science and engineering, including marine and environmental sciences, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical and aerospace engineering. Several lab experiments, field trips, and social events are planned.

Marine Science & Coastal Engineering, July 16-21, ages 10-18: Each day, campers will experience hands-on activities and field trips to help them learn about the many aspects of marine and environmental science. Activities may include measuring water quality in the Indian River Lagoon, examining shoreline processes and beach erosion, and studying the effects of pollution on the marine environment.

Computing Camp Alpha: Computing with Alice, July 16-20, and Computer Camp Beta: Problem Solving with Computing, July 23-27, both for grades 9-12, will offer programming instruction, and movie and game making (Alpha) and experience solving real-life problems with designing and writing computer programs in Java. Prior experience in the Java programming language is not assumed.

Other returning favorites among academic camps include Basic Flight Camp, Advanced Aviation Academy, and Engineering Camp.

And based at Florida Tech but operated independently of the university is another favorite: iBrick Academy. With two five-day sessions June 18-22 and June 25-29, this camp for ages 3-18 uses LEGOs to illustrate STEM concepts.

For sports, there are camps offering a single-sport focus on basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, softball, swimming and lacrosse.
