Titans Advance To Quarterfinals At National Championship Tournament In Plano, Texas

All six singles players advanced

PLANO, TEXAS – The Eastern Florida State College men’s tennis team had a big day at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Plano, Texas.

All six of the singles players advanced to the quarterfinals and two of the doubles teams also moved on at the Collin County Tennis Facilities.

Nils Michel defeated Hinds CC’s Carlos Trujillo at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Michel will play No. 1 seed Marcus Walters of Tyler on Wednesday.

At No. 2 singles, No. 3 seed Adriel Azucey defeated Harford’s Antoine Le Gloan 6-0, 7-5 and will play No. 6 seed Manuel Pilotto in the quarterfinals.

Andreas Wejs had one of the matches of the day, defeating Collin’s Abhi Vankatachalam in three sets, 7-6(2), 6-7(5) and 6-3. Wejs will play No. 1 seed Luke Simkiss of Tyler on Wednesday.

At No. 4 singles, No. 6 seed Alwyn Mushonga defeated Iowa Central’s Antony Lekoko 6-0, 6-3 and will play No. 3 seed Timothee Lamare of Seward in the quarterfinals.

Milan Savic advanced at No. 5 singles with a win over Ned Merrion 6-1, 603 and will play Seward’s Carlo Izurieta who is the No. 2 seed.

At No. 6 singles, Fabricio Galvan defeated Marion’s Vance Llewelyn 6-0, 6-0 and will play No. 3 seed Franck Soulerot of Seward in the quarterfinals.

In doubles action, the No. 2 team of Michel and Acuzey advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Fabricio Galvan and Milan Savic finished the Titans big day with a win in No. 3 doubles, 6-3, 7-6(4).

The Titans will be back in action Wednesday with semifinal spots on the line.
