BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Tonight, I am very proud to announce that earlier this week we officially partnered with the Viera Charter School, to ensure that their campus has the safest environment possible for their students to learn and develop.

Immediately after the senseless tragedy at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Chairman/President Robert Jordan and his team at the Viera Charter School contacted the Sheriff’s Office to develop a School Security and Resource Deputy plan that would be unique to the needs of the Viera Charter School.

A plan that would provide the level of security on their campus that their students, educators, staff, visitors and parents deserve and expect.

The agreement is the first of its kind in Brevard, as Viera Charter School is the first charter school to contract with the Sheriff’s Office to create a safe and secure campus environment. Viera Charter is an Elementary and Middle School for grades K – 8th.

We look forward to this incredible relationship and are committed to doing everything possible to make sure everyone at Viera Charter can feel safe and secure.

Please join me in thanking Chairman Jordan and Principal Dr. Julie Cady and the entire Viera Charter School team for their vision and partnership with us to help keep their school safe!

– Sheriff Wayne Ivey
