BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A 2012 graduate of Space Coast Junior/Senior High School and Brevard County native is the newest member of the Cocoa Police Department. Ryan Brackin, 24, accepted the Police Officer’s Oath of Office in a special swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

Brackin graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy at Eastern Florida State College in 2015. He worked in private security until recently before joining CPD.

Brackin joins his older brother Ken Brackin who is a night shift corporal with the department.

“Cocoa is always where I wanted to work and finally I’m here,” said Brackin immediately after his swearing-in ceremony.

“My brother was a big influence. He has always been someone I looked up to. I’m glad to get started here.”

Brackin says it wasn’t only his brother who influenced him to join the department. Growing up next door to the “World’s Strongest Cop,” the late former CPD Sgt. Charlie Womack was also a big influence.

Brackin begins his law enforcement career with a few months of department training and field training before being deployed to solo patrol.
