Florida Tech’s Kraska, McCabe Named Division II Google Cloud Academic All-Americans

McCabe graduated 3.97 GPA in astronomy & astrophysics; Kraska 3.95 GPA in biomedical engineering
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s Matthew Kraska and Tyler McCabe have been recognized on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both Kraska and McCabe were named to the Academic All-America Third Team. This is the first time that either is receiving the award.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom.
To be nominated, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year to be eligible.
Kraska graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida Tech with a 3.95 GPA in biomedical engineering. He is currently earning a master’s degree in biomedical engineering and boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA.

Kraska posted a season-best 8K of 28:29.2 at the Sunshine State Conference Championships this past fall. During the spring, he finished runner-up in the 10,000 meters at the University of Tampa Invitational with a time of 35:58.89. The Atlanta, Georgia product also recorded a career-high 16:48.71 in the 5,000 meter run at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic.
McCabe graduated Summa Cum Laude in spring 2018 with a 3.97 GPA in astronomy and astrophysics.
The Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania native notched a season-best performance of 28:24.0 in the 8K at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in the fall. He grabbed 22nd-place in the 5,000 meter run at the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Championships.
While at the PBC meet, McCabe was bestowed with the Peach Belt Elite15 Award, given to the athlete with the highest GPA at each of the PBC Championships. It’s the second year in a row that he has received the award.
Kraska and McCabe are the fifth and sixth FIT student-athletes to earn Academic All-Americas distinction during the 2017-18 athletic year.
Evan Enders and Jan Hlavica of the men’s soccer team were tabbed with the honor during the fall, while Neta Saar and Thomas Steenberg of the women’s and men’s swim teams received the award earlier this spring. The six Academic All-America recipients are the most in a single year in Florida Tech history.
