Former Florida Tech Pitcher Drew Beyer Signs Deal With Detroit Tigers

Florida Tech Baseball’s Drew Beyer was signed by Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on Tuesday.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Baseball’s Drew Beyer was signed by Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on Tuesday.

Beyer becomes the second Panther to sign with a MLB team this spring, joining Ty Cohen who was taken with the 933rd pick in the 31st round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

A Sarasota, Florida native, Beyer appeared in 18 games during the 2018 season. He recorded six saves and 60 strikeouts with a 3.79 earned run average.

The four-year member of the FIT baseball team ranks second in school history with 20 career saves. Beyer, a 2016 Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection, is fourth all-time for career appearances with 75 and seventh all-time with a 3.15 career ERA.

Beyer is set for assignment with Detroit’s Gulf Coast League affiliate, the GCL Tigers East.
