BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Mary “Molly” Porcella, nee Johnson, age 91, passed away on June 14 in Melbourne Florida.
Born in Lancaster England, Molly spoke fondly about her earliest years in Wales, before moving to Nottingham at age five with her parents, three sisters, and brother. Her childhood was interrupted by WWII; she went to work in the Raleigh Bicycle factory and later for an accounting firm.
Amid the hardships of war, she met and married Paratrooper Thomas Porcella of the 82nd Airborne, and came to America as his bride. They raised five children in Massapequa NY. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, and son Thomas Jr., and all her siblings.
Molly worked in the banking industry and retired from Chemical/Chase in the 1980s when the Porcella’s moved to Melbourne FL. One of the highlights of their life was returning annually for 35 years to celebrate D-Day in Normandy France, making lifelong friends and learning French.
Molly moved to Victoria Landing Assisted Living in 2014. She especially enjoyed singing in the choir and launching a knitting circle, now known as (Molly’s) Knitwits. She made friends easily and always had a positive smile and attitude.
She will be missed by her surviving children, James and Leslie Porcella of Peachtree City, GA; John Porcella, Ph.d. of Mt. Kisco NY; Christine Fleming of Minneapolis, MN and Cocoa Beach FL; and Mary Lucere of Massapequa NY. She loved and enjoyed her five granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in England and the United States.
To all those who knew Molly as a mother, sister, aunt and friend, take comfort in knowing she is waving goodbye as only the Queen can, and her passing during a beautiful sunrise was her final gift to all who loved her.
Family members request that contributions be made in her memory to Daily Bread, 815 East Fee Avenue, Melbourne. FL 32901; or online at www.dailybreadinc.org. Online condolences may be left at beachfuneralhome.com.
