POLICE: Victim, Suspect Dead After Overnight Shooting In Cocoa

Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 19-year-old Jaleen Malik Howard (left). The suspect, who also died as a result of the shooting, has been identified 22-year-old Rahkwon Shiem Yarveez Oquendo (right). Both individuals were pronounced dead at the hospital.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police have released more information into a shooting that resulted in two people dead early Tuesday morning at the Peachtree Apartments located on 150 Peachtree St. in Cocoa.

Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 19-year-old Jaleen Malik Howard. The suspect, who also died as a result of the shooting, has been identified 22-year-old Rahkwon Shiem Yarveez Oquendo. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say they first responded to a call around 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday about a reported shooting at the Peachtree Apartments. When officers arrived they found the two men with gunshot wounds and were transported to hospitals where they were pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

“Detectives are currently gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses and attempting to locate other individuals that are believed to have been involved,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department.

“The shooting is not believed to be a random act.”
