BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Weather Service in Melbourne reminds everyone that this week is National Lightning Safety Awareness Week and that there is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne forecasts another week on the Space Coast of hot, muggy weather with high probability for storms.

If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm. Just remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!”

THIS WEEK’S WEATHER FORECAST

Monday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 am. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Heat index values as high as 101. Light and variable wind becoming east southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. South southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 11 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
