BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – An important step in securing all Brevard Public Schools’ campuses will be completed and commemorated at a “golden padlock” event on Tuesday, July 31 at Andrew Jackson Middle in Titusville.

The event marks the completion of a push by BPS to create a single, secure point of access at every school with the installation of fencing, cameras and remote-controlled door-lock systems using money from a voter-approved sales surtax. Jackson Middle Principal Tina Susin will have the honor of locking the ceremonial last gate for the district with the golden padlock.

The device will be presented by Wharton Smith, the project’s design-builder.

Passed by Brevard County voters in 2014, the half-cent sales surtax provides funding for critical facility renewal, educational technology and security projects throughout the school district. The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee recommended and the Brevard County School Board approved the acceleration of the district school security program using a temporary transfer of resources from facility renewal to security.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at Jackson Middle located at 1515 Knox McRae Drive in Titusville. Parking is available in front of the school or by the on-site clinic.
