If you’re living in a bland, boring space that doesn’t let you express your personality, you might be wondering what you can do to change things?  Redecorating seems like too much of a hassle; perhaps you live in rented accommodation so this isn’t an option for you.

The good news is that you can inject some of your personality and uniqueness into your space with a few simple home accessories.  We’ve come up with this season’s 5 must-have items to invigorate your interior.

1. Shiny new storage

Invest some of your hard-earned cash in decorative storage boxes and crates.  There’s nothing wrong with a bit of clutter, but if it stored in the prettiest boxes, it will add style and personality to your space.  File documents in a feminine floral tin or store books and DVD’s in a vintage crate, painted your favorite hue.  It’s easy to find storage options of all sizes online.

2. Multi-purpose furniture

Choosing furniture for your home which is multi-purpose is a great way to maximize your space.  For example, a trunk for storage that doubles as a coffee table or a bed with under-bed storage drawers is great for those who like to keep hold of everything. By investing in items that are multi-purpose, you’re making the most of your home.

3. Colorful rugs

Whether you already have carpets or have opted for minimalist laminate flooring, adding vintage rug to your home is one of the best ways to create a cozy atmosphere.  Soft sheepskin rugs and hard-wearing polypropylene designs add interest to any room.  Choose bold florals if you’re looking to make a real style statement, or deep-pile shaggy suede rugs in chocolate brown or black if you’re decorating your bachelor pad.  Rugs are great for the colder winter months but look stylish year round.

4. Scented candles

Not only do colored, scented candles look gorgeous, they smell amazing too!  Bin any mulled wine or spiced apple scents and invest in fresh new fragrances for spring.  Linen, apple and vanilla are all great spring scents that will add a relaxed, clean atmosphere to your home.  Why not choose a different scented candle for each room to ensure your home always smells lovely?

5. Accent lighting

Rather than relying on harsh, overhead lighting constantly, adding accent lighting to your sitting room or bedroom creates a softer, more relaxed vibe.  A floor lamp and a couple of table lamps can be turned on or off to create the levels of light you desire, and choosing lamps with paper shades softens the light even more, great if romance is on the cards or you’re just relaxing at home with a film.

Shake up your space this spring with the above ideas – they won’t cost the earth and will add interest to any room of your home.  Remember, it’s all about injecting some of your unique personality into your space so that when people visit your home, they get a sense of what you’re about!  Hopefully, these ideas have inspired you to come up with some of your own too.
