Violet A. Matey, beloved wife of Thomas W. Matey, peacefully passed into eternal salvation on June 21, 2018. Vi was born in Chicago in 1934 and raised in Indiana, graduating from Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana.

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Violet A. Matey, beloved wife of Thomas W. Matey, peacefully passed into eternal salvation on June 21, 2018. Vi was born in Chicago in 1934 and raised in Indiana, graduating from Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana.

Vi was Miss Indiana and in the Miss American Pageant 1953 where she was named Miss Congeniality. Vi became associated with the Gozzard/Warner Co., Chicago, as a model and fashion coordinator.

Violet married Tom at Sacred Heart Cathedral, University of Notre Dame in 1955. The Mateys moved to Indianapolis and then Glencoe, IL where Vi was a devoted mother of five, wife and partner to her husband’s career. The Mateys moved to Orlando, FL in 1979 and founded Las Olas Resorts, Inc., developer of the Las Olas Beach Club timeshare resorts. Vi and Tom traveled the world visiting many timeshare resorts, a passion they enjoyed together. Vi was a longtime resident of Bay Hill, Orlando, having been an enthusiastic golfer.

Vi was also an enthusiastic supporter of conservative causes and politics as Media Research Center Trustee, Hillsdale College Associate, President Ronald Reagan Ranch Founding Member and Young Republicans of America Colleague. Vi was a true patriot, strongly believed in the goodness of America and proudly exhibited her patriotic beliefs. Vi was a longtime participating contributor to Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine in Orlando.

Vi’s primary goal in life was a loving wife and devoted mother and was wonderfully successful at both. Violet was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas, and oldest child, Ann. Survived by children Christina (Matey) & Timothy Nolan, Tom Matey, Jr., Rebecca Matey, Maria (Matey) & Tom Locke, granddaughter, Elizabeth Locke; sister Lorrie (Joe) Coens; sister-in-law Anne Smith; brother-in-law Frank (JoAnn) Matey; and many very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including the many timeshare owners at the Las Olas Beach Clubs.

The Matey family would like to thank the numerous people & facilities that have taken care of Violet through her illness.
