Titusville Woman Arrested For Child Neglect After Child Found Wandering Around US-1

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – A Titusville woman was arrested by Titusville Police on Wednesday after a three-year-old child, under her care, was found unattended and wandering near four lanes of what police describe as “heavy traffic along US-1 in Titusville.”

Police identified the woman as 20-year-old Brittany Marie Jones from Titusville.

According to Officer Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department, a call received by dispatch around 9 a.m. on Wednesday about a witness who found a child wandering near the busy highway from the parking lot of Ace Hardware located at 3636 S. Washington Ave.

Another witness was able to grab the child just before the child reached the travel lanes.

Afterward, witnesses took the child into Ace Hardware and called police.

When officers arrived, Jones was then located and placed under arrest for child neglect.

Jones has since been booked into the Brevard County Jail.

“The same child and woman were also involved in a similar incident three days earlier on Garden St. in which the child was found unattended near a roadway. In that case, DCF was contacted and an assessment was done by detectives,” said Officer Matthews.

“In this latest incident, DCF also responded and is investigating. The child was uninjured in the incident and was placed with a temporary caretaker.”
