Three people were fatally shot at the scene of a video game tournament, including the gunman, who took his own life, according to Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams. Nine other people suffered gunshot wounds, Williams said.

The shooter was identified as David Katz, 24, from Baltimore, Maryland.

Sheriff Williams said took his own life inside Chicago Pizza after the shooting. Katz, who was a video game competitor, used at least one handgun in the attack, according to Sheriff Williams.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – Law enforcement responding to what the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office described as a “mass shooting” that happened Sunday afternoon at a popular area in downtown Jacksonville filled with people at bars and restaurants.

According to News4jax.com, sources say at least 11 people have been shot and four are dead after a shooting at the Jacksonville Landing Sunday afternoon.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter that many people had been wounded and urged people to avoid the area, and a suspect was dead at the scene.

“One suspect is dead at the scene, unknown at this time if we have a second suspect. Searches are being conducted,” said the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Twitter.

“Mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing,” said the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in a tweet about 2:15 p.m. “Stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY. Yes, that includes media. It is for safety.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said on Twitter agents are responding to the scene.

The shooting reportedly occurred during a qualifying event for the Madden 19 Tournament at the GLHF Game Bar, according to a CompLexity tweet.

The Jacksonville Landing is an open-air marketplace with stores, bars and restaurants in downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns River.
