BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The Space Coast’s sick and injured marine reptiles are in good hands with Shanon Gann, Brevard Zoo’s new sea turtle program manager.

A biology graduate of Florida Atlantic University with 15 years’ experience in wildlife rehabilitation and research, Gann worked at the Zoo as a sea turtle program coordinator from July 2016 to her promotion this month. She succeeds a manager who departed earlier in the summer after three years of service.

Gann will manage the Sea Turtle Healing Center’s rehabilitation, release and educational outreach efforts with the assistance of more than 50 volunteers. The Healing Center is housed under the Zoo’s department of veterinary programs, which is led by Dr. Trevor Zachariah.

“I’ve always sensed a calling to help animals in need,” said Gann.

“Sea turtle rehabilitation is the most demanding, overwhelming and, at times, heartbreaking experience I’ve ever had, but it’s ultimately the most rewarding. I look forward to building on the Healing Center’s momentum to give even more patients a second shot at life.”
