U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Two Boaters Stranded On Disappearing Island

The Coast Guard rescued two boaters Sunday after their boat became stuck aground on Disappearing Island near Ponce Inlet.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Coast Guard rescued two boaters Sunday after their boat became stuck aground on Disappearing Island near Ponce Inlet.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders received a call at 4:00 a.m. from the operator of a 19-foot pontoon boat stating he had been stranded for seven hours after beaching his boat and being unable to relaunch it.

A Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon Inlet Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water boat crew launched to assist at approximately 4:30 a.m.

The SPC-SW crew arrived on-scene, recovered the boaters and transported them to the station where they were met by family members.

No injuries were reported.
