BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have arrested a suspect who admitted to authorities that he took the 10-foot Boy Scouts of America Troop enclosed trailer last week in Melbourne.

The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Stephen Joseph Petnel.

Police say they were able to locate the Boy Scout trailer on Wednesday after verifying the VIN number on the trailer. The trailer had been painted and the Boy Scout lettering was removed by Petnel to hide the trailer, according to police.

Petnel later confessed to authorities on Thursday about taking the trailer.

He has been charged with two counts of Grand Theft,  possession of burglary tools and removing/altering personal property.

It appears most or all of the
scouting equipment that was stored inside was also recovered, according to police. (MPD Image)
Melbourne Police are asking for community’s help in identifying and locating a suspect that took a Boy Scouts of America Troop trailer last week in Melbourne.
