BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After a manhunt by Brevard County Sheriff’s aviation and K9 units Wednesday about 11:30 a.m., BCSO agents took into custody suspected car thieves that crashed into a 2017 Ford driven by Michael McCovery, 42, of Chipley, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, McCovery and his passenger, 21-year-old Jaime Arroyo of Tampa, suffered minor injuries when the car overturned on I-95 at Mile Marker 177 near Minton Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident began as a stolen vehicle, a 2013 Hyundai, was traveling northbound on I-95 in the center lane as McCovery’s Ford was traveling northbound, in the right lane.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the stolen Hyundai lost control and pulled in front of McCovery, causing the vehicle to overturn. The suspects in the stolen Hyundai then fled the scene on foot and were later arrested by Brevard County Sheriff’s agents after a search.

McCovery was transported to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Melbourne police are investigating the car theft. The crash remains under investigation and charges for the crash are pending from the Florida Highway Patrol.
