BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team finished fourth in the first tournament of the fall season, the Wallace State Fall Invite in Cullman, Alabama.

The team shot 3-under in the final round to finish with an 861 for the three rounds. Freshman Thomas Matthews shot a 75 in the final round and finished tied for fifth overall.

The men’s golf team will compete in the NJCAA District 4 Preview Sept. 24-25 in Marion, IL.

Beck Fox, who competed in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament last season, returns along with Tanner Gonzalez and Chandler Dixon who was hurt for much of last season.

“I like this team,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “I have some leadership to go with six hungry freshmen.”

Among those freshmen is Tom Matthews who played on the international team in Wales, Ryan McMillan who was one of the better junior players in his province in Canada and a couple of Florida natives in Ben Ramos and Sean McGinty who coach Howell thinks could be good this season.

“I am interested to see who is going to step up,” Howell said. “I am curious to see how it shakes out. How are they going to do, I think they are going to do well but I need to see it.”
