Florence Strengthens To Category 3 Hurricane With State of Emergency Declared In Carolinas, Virginia

ABOVE VIDEO: Hurricane Florence has strengthened to a Category 3 storm as it continued to rapidly intensify during its approach toward to Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic coast.

(FOX NEWS) – Hurricane Florence has strengthened to a Category 3 storm as it continued to rapidly intensify during its approach toward to Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic coast.

Up and down the coast, residents are rushing to ready emergency kits, map out escape routes and secure their homes in preparation for the onslaught of rain and wind the rapidly intensifying Hurricane Florence is expected to bring later this week.

The National Hurricane Center said in its 11:00 a.m. ET advisory that Florence is rapidly strengthening into a major hurricane. It is about 580 miles southeast of Bermuda – or about 1240 miles from Cape Fear, N.C.

Forecasters said Florence has sustained winds of 115 mph with hurricane-force winds extending outward up to 30 mph.
