BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In this edition of “Riding Shotgun,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey and 12-year department veteran, Deputy Matt Preston, patrol the area that covers the North Precinct of Brevard County.

In this episode, Sheriff Ivey and Deputy Preston respond to two calls.

The first call involves a Marine veteran, who Deputy Preston had previously helped locate resources for addiction issues.

The next call started when Deputy Preston spotted a pick-up truck with no tail lights. Deputy Preston attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, nearly crashing into a utility pole.

The driver then drove recklessly through a neighborhood. Per department policy, Deputy Preston did not chase the suspect but followed at a safe speed and pulled up to find the truck stopped and its occupant fleeing.

Deputy Preston and Sheriff Ivey gave chase on foot, apprehending the suspect who admitted he fled due to having a suspended drivers license. The driver was subsequently booked into the Brevard County Jail under several felony charges.
