Florida Highway Patrol and rescue units responded to a deadly crash on State Road 520 and Plumosa St. in Merritt Island on Sunday.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol officials have identified Francis Lovvorn, 59, of Cocoa as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday about 11:10 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol and rescue units responded to a deadly crash involving a motorcycle on State Road 520 and Plumosa Street in Merritt Island that temporarily shut down all westbound lanes on State Road 520, while crews processed the scene.

According to Lt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash killed Lovvorn, who was riding his 2014 Suzuki motorcycle after he attempted to turn right onto westbound State Road 520 but collided with a 2014 Dodge van.

The crash sent Lovvorn to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he later died as a result from his injuries.

The driver of the van was identified as 37-year-old Tammy Ssesanga from Merritt Island. She was not injured.
