BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Athletics and the Alex Brack Foundation will join forces to provide relief to those in Florida’s panhandle affected by Hurricane Michael which devastated the area weeks ago.

The groups will be working together on a school supply drive to assist schools directly affected by Hurricane Michael. The effort will be focused on collecting school supplies for the schools in Bay, Jackson, Calhoun and Gulf Counties. Many families in these areas have completely lost their homes and some schools will closed for an extensive period of time.

The area hopes to have students back in schools in the coming weeks.

The Alex Brack Foundation is an organization founded by Greg and Janet Brack following the death of their son Alex Brack. The foundation has close ties to Florida Tech as Alex was a civil engineering major and a member of the Panther football team at the time of his passing.

The Alex Brack Foundation Inc. was created in March 2015 as a 501(c)3 corporation by Greg and Janet Brack following the death of their son Alex Brack on November 2, 2014. Alex was a graduate of Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida and student at Florida Institute of Technology majoring in Civil Engineering and member of the football team. (FIT Image)

The Brack Foundation has already set up drop-off locations for school supplies and monetary donations, which will be used to purchase supplies, in different sites in the affected area.

This week, from Monday through Friday, Florida Tech and the Alex Brack Foundation have set up a drop-off bin at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center for anyone interested in donating supplies during the week.

There will also be a bin placed at the women’s basketball exhibition game against Saint Thomas on Friday evening, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Clemente Center.

A drop-off location will also be placed in the concession concourse on the northeast corner of Florida Tech Panther Stadium for those interested in donating at the football game against North Greenville on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Some items Florida Tech and the Alex Brack Foundation are encouraging people to donate are pencils, paper, composition books, and folders.

An event registry has also been created through Walmart in the name of the Alex Brack Foundation and can be found on Walmart.com. This will allow donors to purchase their items online and have them shipped to the foundation.

Starting as a scholarship fund for seniors of Walton High School the overwhelming support gave the opportunity to help others. Greg and Janet quickly made a connection in the community and began to help families with special needs such as Autism. With this they were able to reach out to families with children enrolled in ABA Therapy to offer scholarships to the families with little or no insurance coverage.

Donations have also been made to the Scott Center for Autism at Florida Tech University to assist families financially with initial evaluations.

100% of the money raised by the Alex Brack Foundation Inc. goes to scholarships and helping others. The largest fund raiser each of the last 4 years is the Alex Brack Foundation Golf Tournament held in DeFuniak Springs. Other fundraisers have included raffles of a Big Green Egg Grill, Golf Clubs, Yeti Coolers and T-Shirt sales. The foundation will always continue looking for ways to help others and children.
