Longtime Brevard Restaurateur Edwin ‘Eddie’ Serrano Passed Away Aug. 30 at Age of 70

Dear Daddy, on Thursday, August 30, 2018, you left this world to enter a heavenly home we can only imagine.
Edwin “Eddie” Serrano, passed away at age of 70. He was born September 13, 1947, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Julia and Rafael Serrano. He leaves behind two daughters, Gina and Jennifer; and five grandchildren, Samantha, Skyler, Julia, Bella and Joey. In addition, our father leaves behind a huge number of friends in Brevard County, Florida.
Eddie is known to the Space Coast community through his longtime co-ownership of Eddie’s Diner in Melbourne, Florida, Sun on the Beach in Satellite Beach and yet another diner on the corner of University and Babcock known as Eddie’s.
Dad’s family moved to New York City when he was three years old looking for a better life. There were no dual-language programs in his school area and he grew up struggling with a system that failed him and others who did not know English yet. He persevered because he was “street smart” and a hard worker.
In his youth, he had multiple odd jobs, including driving an ambulance, but Eddie decided he would stick with the restaurant business.
He felt that there would always be plenty of business for a restaurant if they provided quality food, at a reasonable price with good service. Dad was known for providing all three, as well as being a kind and compassionate man. Dad moved our family to Florida in 1986 after several years as co-owner of a diner named The Coffee Shop in Mount Kisco, New York.
Eddie had a special appreciation and respect for those in the law enforcement community, and many current and former law enforcement officers are longtime customers to this day.
In the last several years, our father developed a personal relationship with Jesus and was proud to be a Christ follower. His hope was that others could find that same peace and hope offered through Christ Jesus.
There will be a Mass held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 12 noon, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, located at 1710 Hickory Street Melbourne, Florida. Following the Mass, Gina and Jennifer are planning a Celebration of Life for their father that will be held at Eddie’s Diner, 55 E. Nasa Boulevard in Melbourne at 2:30 p.m.
His friends are invited to come and celebrate his life. We love and miss you Dad.
