BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA –Republican nominee for Governor, Ron DeSantis, along with Sheriff Wayne Ivey and four sheriffs from across the state of Florida, hosted a press conference Tuesday morning that featured four Florida Sheriffs endorsing and supporting DeSantis in Titusville at the Brevard County American Police Hall of Fame & Museum.

DeSantis expressed his gratitude to the sheriffs in attendance that included Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly and Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods.

“I thank the sheriffs for the support and it really means a lot to me,” said DeSantis.

“The importance of law enforcement is always on my mind and it was so apparent to me in Panama City on Saturday when we were distributing supplies. You saw the first responders and law enforcement helping those in need.”

“They represent the best of this state.”

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was proud to give his endorsement for Ron DeSantis on Tuesday.

“Today, I am proud to stand here and endorse Ron DeSantis for Florida’s next governor,” said Sheriff Ivey

“I am proud to stand with a man that has clearly stood for our country, but also our law enforcement.”

“He (Desantis) is going to stand with law enforcement. He has our back.”

Sheriff Ivey continued on by mentioning he doesn’t appreciate Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum’s statements and pledges to those that have expressed anti-cop rhetoric.

“Let me tell you something, standing with law enforcement doesn’t mean signing a pledge to stand with the dream defenders. A group that is about as much as anti-police and anti-victims as you can get.”

“Why would you give a pledge to a group that says cops are bad and prisons are bad? Makes no sense to me.”

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis was endorsed today by four Sheriffs from around the State of Florida, including Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey. DeSantis, along with the Sheriffs held a press conference at the Police Hall of Fame and Museum in Titusville to discuss the endorsement, as well as issues impacting the governor’s race in Florida.

Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma spoke about the crime rate in Tallahassee, the city of Andrew Gillum, who has been the mayor since 2014.

“As the state of Florida experiences 47-year low in crime, the crime rate in Tallahassee is skyrocketing like never before,” said Sheriff Lemma.

“Nobody wants to come do business in Florida when there is a a high crime rate. The property values in Tallahassee are significantly decreasing  because nobody wants to move into a neighborhood that has a high crime rate.”

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly talked about his endorsement of DeSantis and how important this year’s Florida Gubernatorial Election when it comes to the Florida Supreme Court.

“My expectation for a governor is to lead this state and support law enforcement. Ron was my congressman and I got to know a lot about him. His background, and his record, speaks for itself,” said Sheriff Staly.

“The most important part of this race is the next governor is going to appoint three Supreme Court Justices. We need strong constitutional Supreme Court Justices that will follow the law, follow the Constitution and not be activists”

Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods echoed Sheriff Ivey’s sentiment on Gillum’s pledges to groups who aren’t supportive of law enforcement.

“One of the biggest things I tell my community is that all communities need two things to survive, law enforcement and fire departments. Take those two away, a community will die and disappear. Ron DeSantis recognizes that and understands that. Ron DeSantis stood on the line to protect this nation. He knows it because he has children himself. Children, he knows needs law enforcement back home to stand and protect his children,” said Sheriff Woods.

“We can debate and come up with all ideas but when you look at the papers that were signed by Gillum where law enforcement, jails and prisons had no place in a judicial system. A philosophy or any support of that is what destroys the foundation of our judicial system.”

“It may not be perfect, but it is the best on this planet.”

The press conference was shown on Space Coast Daily TV.

DeSantis, who served a JAG officer in the U.S. Navy and as a federal prosecutor, is committed to supporting Florida’s law enforcement community, ensuring they have the resources they need to keep Florida’s families safe.

DeSantis is running against Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum in Florida’s Gubernatorial Election on November 6.
