U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps JAG Legal Academy To Hold Mock Trial in Viera Oct. 15

Sea Cadets offer a variety of training in every aspect of Navy life

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a youth organization chartered by Congress and sponsored by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, is hosting advanced training in Brevard County, Oct. 12-15. For the first time since 2012, the Sea Cadets is offering a JAG Legal Academy. JAG is the Judge Advocate General Corps, which is the military legal system.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a youth organization chartered by Congress and sponsored by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, is hosting advanced training in Brevard County, Oct. 12-15.

For the first time since 2012, the Sea Cadets is offering a JAG Legal Academy. JAG is the Judge Advocate General Corps, which is the military legal system.

“The Cadets worked all last weekend and they are working all this weekend with their training culminating in a mock trial before the Honorable David Silverman at the Viera courthouse,” said Jim Stokes, spokesman for the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Melbourne NSCC/NLCC Training Contingent.

The training will culminate with a mock trial in the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Justice Center, located at 2825 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15. The public is invited to attend the mock trial.

“It would be nice to let people see how these dedicated young people spend their free time,” said Stokes.

“Most of the cadets are from the Brevard County area, but we also have a cadet here from Saint Cloud and one from Miami – cadets who aspire to a career as a Navy lawyer someday.”

Classroom training prior to Monday’s mock trial is happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Melbourne Central Catholic and is hosted by the David McCampbell Battalion, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Melbourne NSCC/NLCC Training Contingent.

The Sea Cadets offer a variety of training in every aspect of Navy life and in every naval career field including things like Seal training, EOD training, medical, photojournalism, flight training and more.
