BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In this edition of “Riding Shotgun,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey and Field Training Officer Deputy Brian Hopkins patrol the West Precinct area of Brevard County, located on Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera.

In this episode, Sheriff Ivey and Deputy Hopkins respond to three calls. The first is a call for an injured large bird, possibly a hawk, in the middle of State Road 520.

Deputy Hopkins contacted Wild Florida Rescue who responded and collected the bird to help rehabilitate it.

The second call was a basic traffic stop for faulty equipment in which a female driver was missing part of her rear tail light following a recent accident. After all of her information checked out the driver was given a written warning to repair the light and went on with her day.

The third call was anything but basic, as Sheriff Ivey and Deputy Hopkins responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit tracked the vehicle and the suspects from the air. As a result of the air coverage, two suspects were arrested after trying to hide in a backyard after abandoning the vehicle in the home’s driveway.

Deputy Hopkins loves his job and when asked how to describe what it’s like to be a Deputy Sheriff for Brevard County, Brian responded quickly with, “Awesome.”
