BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In this edition of “Riding Shotgun,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey and Deputy Hannah Carpenter patrol the Cape Canaveral area, which includes taking a patrol ride on Brevard County beaches.

Sheriff Ivey and Deputy Carpenter patrol the beach to start a shift and then respond to a routine property wellness check and a traffic stop that lead to a K9 alerting Deputies to the possibility of drugs inside of the vehicle.

The wellness check is common during a shift by Deputies to check on properties that are known and have a history of drugs and crime. Nothing or no one unusual was found during this wellness check.

Deputy Carpenter then performed a traffic stop of a vehicle that rolled through a stop sign.

A K9 was deployed to walk the vehicle alerting on an area that Deputy Carpenter searched and found a small canister that once contained marijuana.

Deputy Carpenter issued warnings and allowed the driver to proceed.
