BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Alert Melbourne police officers arrested Quincy Pratt, 23, of Cocoa, who was charged with carrying a concealed firearm after a traffic stop about 1 a.m. Sunday.

According to a Melbourne police report, while on patrol, two officers ran the license plate of a four-door BMW passenger vehicle parked at the Sunoco at 4000 South Babcock Street.

An FCIC/NCIC inquiry of the license plate revealed it was registered to a gray Nissan pickup, which was reported stolen by the Rockledge Police Department.

Officers then activated their patrol vehicle’s emergency lights, initiating a traffic stop, approached the vehicle, and made contact with the driver later identified as Pratt.

According to the arrest report, as one officer approached from the passenger side, he observed a concealed firearm between Pratt’s right leg and the center console.

The firearm was not secured in a case or holster and was stored in a fashion making it readily accessible.

The firearm was identified in the report as a Taurus Millennium G2, 9mm, which had one live round seated in the chamber and an additional 11 live rounds in the magazine.

Pratt was instructed to exit the vehicle, at which time he was placed into hand restraints, and into the rear seat of the patrol unit.

An inquiry revealed Pratt does not possess a concealed carry permit, therefore, probable cause existed to charge him with carrying a concealed firearm.

After securing Pratt, an inquiry of the vehicle identification number revealed the vehicle was reported stolen, according to the arrest report.

Pratt was transported to booking at the Melbourne Police Department and then transferred to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
