Florida Attorney General Bondi Joins Multistate Effort to Fight Illegal Robocalls

The multistate group of attorneys general has already held in-depth meetings with several major telecom companies

Attorney General Pam Bondi today announced the establishment of a bipartisan group of 40 state attorneys general working together to fight unlawful robocalls.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Attorney General Pam Bondi today announced the establishment of a bipartisan group of 40 state attorneys general working together to fight unlawful robocalls.

As part of the endeavor, the coalition of attorneys general is working with major telecom companies to identify and improve the latest technology designed to stop illegal robocalls.

“Robocalls are not only annoying, they are often scams used to steal your money or identity,” said Attorney General Bondi.

“Working together I am hopeful that we can develop new ways to block illegal robocalls and protect consumers.”

The multistate group of attorneys general has already held in-depth meetings with several major telecom companies.

These productive meetings have led to greater information sharing about technological capabilities currently in existence and technology in development designed to fight illegal robocalls.

MULTISTATE ATTORNEY GENERALS WORKING TO: 

  • Develop a detailed understanding of what is technologically feasible to minimize unwanted robocalls and illegal telemarking;
  • Engage the major telecom companies to encourage them to expedite best possible solutions for consumers; and
  • Determine whether states should make further recommendations to the Federal Communications Commission to strengthen current robocall regulations.
