BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA– Space Coast Sports Hall of Famer Dan Diesel was recently elected Vice Mayor for the City Of Titusville.

The move capped a very busy two-year span that started in April of 2016 when the former head football announced his candidacy for Seat 3 on the Titusville City Council.

In May of 2016, Diesel was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame, and three months later in August of 2016, Diesel won 54 percent of the vote against three other candidates and became a Titusville City Councilman.

Considering Diesel’s nearly 35 years spent at Titusville high school, staying busy is the only way the 2007 State of Florida Athletic Director of the Year knows how to live.

During his three-plus decade-long tenure as a Terrier, Diesel coached and advocated for a wide range of sports, from football and wrestling to golf and bowling.

He coached seven different sports and no fewer than two sports a year for 25 years.

With the Titusville football team, Diesel served as assistant coach on championship, semi-final and quarterfinal teams, and head coach for four post-season play teams.

Becoming Vice Mayor earlier seems like a natural transition for Diesel who has been widely honored as a teacher and coach. This consummate teacher and coach.

Along with Dan Diesel, second from right, new Titusville City Council-member Robert Jordan, left, and Jo Lynn Nelson, second from left, were all sworn in earlier this week.

Titusville named him Teacher of the Year in 1994 and in 2009, Diesel received the Eddie Marrin Spirit of Golf National Mentor of the Year Award. Cape Coast Conference singled him out twice as Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year and he was thrice selected as Space Coast Boys’ Golf Coach of the Year.

In 1995, Diesel was named the FACA Class 5A District Football Coach of the Year. As if being an administrator, coach, and politician isn’t enough, Dan Diesel is first and foremost a husband and father.

The St.Louis native and Titusville raised Diesel has been married to his loving wife Barbara for 35 years. They have three sons who have all followed in their dad’s footsteps.

Matt, the oldest, just finished his first year as a head coach at Space Coast Junior-Senior High where the Vipers finished 6-4 doubling their win output from last season.

“My dad is a guy who loves waking up every day with a purpose,” said his son Matt. “His purpose in life is and always will be to make a difference in peoples lives. He wants to have a positive impact on everyone around him.”

“His passion is genuine and he cares very deeply for the city and people of Titusville. He has proudly given his career to the youth of the community and is now driven to do the right things the right way as Vice Mayor for the city of Titusville.
