Florida Tech Football Places Five On GSC All-Academic Team, 40 Named to Honor Roll

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Gulf South Conference released its 2018 Fall All-Academic Team and five members of the Florida Tech football team are among the list of honorees. Additionally, 40 Panthers earned spots on the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Representing the Crimson & Gray on the All-Academic Team are Jimmy Hinel, Trevor Olds, Thomas Roman, Michael Ruess and Evan Thompson.

This is the second year in a row in which Hinel and Olds were selected to the All-Academic Team, while the other three Panthers are receiving the honor for the first time.

To be eligible for the Academic All-GSC Teams, nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers.

A senior defensive lineman, Hinel boasts a 3.67 GPA in business administration, while Olds, a redshirt junior offensive lineman, has a 3.20 GPA in global management and finance.

Roman, a junior linebacker, owns a perfect 4.00 GPA in Aerospace Engineering and Ruess, a junior offensive lineman, earned a 3.40 GPA as an accounting major. Thompson, a sophomore linebacker, is majoring in entrepreneurship and has a 3.80 GPA.

Florida Tech’s 40 student-athletes on the Honor Roll are the most of any football team in the GSC.

A total of 978 student-athletes finished with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and were named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
