UPDATE: Man Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash In Cocoa On Wednesday

UPDATE: The victim of the fatal hit-and-run is identified as Bruce D. Calkins, 56, from Rockledge.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A man in Cocoa has been arrested for a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a Rockledge man early Wednesday morning on eastbound State Road 520 near Varr Ave.

The suspected driver has been identified as 33-year-old Jacqueice Witcher. He has been charged with DUI.

Cocoa Police say one their officers discovered a bumper from a black car in the roadway of eastbound SR 520 near Varr Ave.

During that time, a witness found Calkins in the median a short distance away, police say.

A half hour later, Cocoa Police were alerted that a Brevard Sheriff’s Office deputy had stopped a 2014 black Honda Accord with front end damage that included a missing front bumper.

Further investigation revealed the black bumper found in the roadway matched the VIN number of the vehicle stopped by BCSO.

All lanes on SR 520 were closed briefly between Varr Ave. and Fiske Blvd. while the traffic homicide investigation continued.

Police are still investigating the incident.
