Search Warrant Conducted By SWAT, Melbourne Police Nets Two Arrests and Numerous Drugs Seized

Derek Strickland (left) and Robert James (right) were arrested on Thursday on drug charges after a search warrant resulted in police finding numerous drugs inside a house in Melbourne.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police arrested two men last week after a search warrant resulted in the confiscation of numerous drugs inside a house on the 2600 block of Melbourne.

After a two-month investigation, the Melbourne Police Department Special Investigations Unit and a SWAT team obtained a search warrant after a number of community complaints about drug activity at the house.

Authorities found the following items during the search warrant:

– 4.0 grams of Heroin
– 10.4 grams of Methamphetamine
– 9.3 grams of MDMA
– Lorazepam .5mg
– Numerous items of drug paraphernalia
– 1 handgun

Police arrested 29-year-old Derek Leon Strickland and charged him with trafficking in heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of MDMA and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond has been set at $51,000.

Robert Scott James, 55, was also arrested and charged with possession of MDMA and possession of methamphetamine. His bond was set at $10,000.
