BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A local band could win a recording session at WFIT 89.5 FM’s performance studio on the Florida Tech campus and a slot at the station’s Sonic Waves Music Festival as the WFIT Garage Band Contest gets underway.

To be eligible, bands must be from Brevard County and unsigned.

To enter, bands must film a new video of them performing an original song in a garage. The video, no longer than 5 minutes, should then be uploaded to YouTube. The link should be included on the contest entry form.

The band must submit an entry form, available at www.wfit.org, by Friday, March 22.

No other method of entry will be accepted.

Though the song must be original, any genre of music, including rock, reggae, hip-hop, funk, jazz, blues, country and bluegrass, is allowed.

The videos will be judged based on musical quality/appeal, originality, and stage presence/charisma of the performers.

The winning band will be announced on the air at about 12:10 p.m. Friday, March 29, during Todd Kennedy’s Sound Waves program.

In the days after the announcement, Kennedy will interview the winning band, which will also be allowed to record its winning song in the station’s state-of-the-art performance studio. That recording will be aired on WFIT at a later date.

The band will also be asked to perform at the 2019 Sonic Waves Music Festival on Saturday, April 13, at the Intracoastal Brewing Company in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne.
